Space structures made for a specified time in order to reflect time. Create relationships, ask questions. Because the shape of the world depends on the way it is seen.

The gold of the little man

The Incas called the potatoes "papas". They were not only food but had like gold cultic, cultural and religious significance, and no commercial value. Gold by the Incas was called "beads of sweat from the sun".

Potato or Gold...
the one is life-sustaining, the other valuable. A cross-border idea connected to the question: how do we want to live and what are our values?

Since art is free from fear of connect different things it can establish relationships between science and economy. In the intermediate area arises that magic that can not be seen with the naked eye. An image from the scanning electron microscope represents the leaf of a potato. It becomes a scientific aid. Immerse oneself in the microcosm, enlarge the invisible into the oversized and question perspectives. Science allows insights. Nature becomes art and art a natural act. Art is always a creative act and a primordial concept, inexplicable as life is, indefinable and useless, and at the same time it dissolves rigid structures and enables new forms of experiencing. A macrocosm develops that unfolds itself in every direction, abstractly, three-dimensionally. A certain color chosen, all colors and at the same time none. Black like the nightshade, a quest for purity, a return to zero. In the enlargement of the non-visible fine hairs seams weapons, Glandular cells turn into fists, Stomata resemble scouts as if the sheet would have to defend the fruit, which is hidden in the earth. Appreciation.

Is the mysterious, the unexplainable not the most beautiful thing we can experience?

2018 breath - Stiftsmuseum Innichen

How do we want to live and when do we live?

The artist explores this question with different three-dimensional images. Life is relationship. From the first breath to the last, we relate to the world, to other people, to animals, plants, and space. The breath is the most direct instrument through which the inside connects with the outside. He is the purest form of relationship. He flows from outside into us, it
breathes in us, in and out, in and out. Breathe and live.

2016 Die Schneid - Brunnenburg - Dorf Tirol

The separation of heaven and earth

Numerous stories tell of the separation of heaven and earth. They are usually cleavage myths, poignant, confusing, humorous, or even pitiless stories.

Long ago, nothing separated sky and earth. Heaven and earth were a couple embracing each other, like Nut the goddess of heaven and Geb the god of earth in Egypt. Like Gaia the goddess of earth and Uranus the god of heaven in Greece from their union was born Kronos. The fruit of perfection one could think if the son had not emasculated his father with a sickle. A cut. Nevertheless, the Golden Age arises, a peaceful world and happy people. Perhaps that is the reason why Kronos later was equated with Chronos, the Greek winged god of time.
There are, of course, also stories telling about a connection like a heavenly ladder, a rope, a staircase and thus describe a paradise state. Separated and yet connected. Separation creates space and time, but also polarity, up and down, man and woman, heaven and earth, life and death. Separation creates distance, movement not standstill and life which strives again for union.

World as a place of complementary duality in which a reversal of the opposites returns into chaos, not order, but again primordial soup from which everything arose.

2015 The poppy in mythology folk medicine, food and material culture of Tyrol - Brunnenburg - Dorf Tirol

Like poppy and memory

Language guides our thoughts and words convey feelings too. So when we talk about ourselves we use words to identify what we think and feel. We give others a look into our souls.
Instead of speak I prefer to look at the world as a stage and to stage my thoughts and ideas spatially. Perhaps that is just a game, perhaps a pastime even if one can not pass time. Time goes by without that we want it. Maybe it's an activity that contributes to know oneself better combined with the desire to create relationships between what I am and what I am not.
Spaces inside and outside - localization - an intimate need for harmony between nature and art. Join together and differentiate, discover, disguise, reveal, hear an inner sound, trace unfathomable secrets. Change scales to resolve apparent certainties because in the perception separate areas merge.
I’m also wondering how immaterial values arise and how it is possible to materialize them.
Possibly it’s only a game, but one that when it is subtle, becomes art. Boundaries dissolve and allow me to sink in unreal world in miraculous and hopeful ideas that I like to share with others. Even if the chaos of madness and the horror will keep trying to get the upper hand, the desire for order, beauty and harmony remains alive; wholeness as target and art as a tool to connect nature with human and human with human.

2014 Flickwerk - Brunnenburg - Dorf Tirol

In the preface of the catalog for the exhibition at the Brunnenburg Castle – Agricultural Museum and Ezra-Pound Centre for Literature of Tirolo, Wolfgang M. Heckl writes: "The rural life in Tirol", as in many other regions was always defined by necessity and scarcity of resources. Repairing, recycling and re-purposing of everyday objects therefore always played an important role in everyday life of the rural population. In the throwaway society that dominated in the western industrialized countries in recent decades, this way of life was long seen as backward. However, in recent years a rethinking can be observed. Disposable products are increasingly transformed in a creative way in newones. They become upgraded upcycled which in the peasant culture was always practiced."

Old sheets, tablecloths, towels and sheets were dyed and sewn together to 5 lanes. Fixed to the ceiling with clips from folders and correlated to ten Etruscan feet in possession of Castel Fontana. 3m x 1.6m.

2010 Maringgele - Commenda Lengmoos/Longomoso - Ritten/Renon

The praying Mantis

The place a Lengmoos Ritten where the exhibition takes place belongs to the Teutonic Order a place which also has to do with religion. It is a place where you lose the ground under your feet, a suspended place. A glance out of the windows – desire for summer holidays arises - grasshoppers, flowers, shadow and light.

In South-Tirol the Mantis is called Maringgele, in Latin her name is Mantis Religiosa and means praying mantis, in Greek her name means prophet. I read that the extreme mobility of its head is unique in the insect kingdom and that it has legs with thorns. When it is at rest and lies in wait for prey, it seems a praying creature. An aura of mystery surrounds these fascinating animals. That's why I wanted to do something that causes a sigh. I wanted to make something that can never be fully grasped. If you look at it you must feel fear and joy simultaneously although one can have only an impression for something inconceivable.
But basically this exhibition wants to talk only about space.
How much space do we give to our dreams, hopes and fears?
How much space do we give to what we believe?

For that reason my Mantis is only an image of a female being accused of cannibalism, which is basically just for the conservation of the species, or a picture of an adaptive being.

A space-filling thought and nothing else
and my two rooms are like day and night, the one dark, the other bright and absolutely silent.

2009 set signs - Typwriter Museum - Partschins/Parcines

Perception combines what intellect separates.

How began scripture? With which the signs do we communicate?
What would be if there were no general signs such as letters?

We set signs with everything we do, how we do it and where. Regardless of whether we set signs with a machine or by hand, on a sheet of paper or in the global digital network. All doing is art, when we are aware of what we do and the perception focuses on the moment. Writing as a creative process of lyrical and poetic texts, letters become pictures, a play with language and writing, letters moved by fingers. Hands bring thoughts down on paper, thoughts invent machines ...
Doing to enable communication.

Gustave Flaubert says: The more art progresses, the more it becomes science and at the same rate science becomes art. Both will meet again at the top after they have separated at the base.

Exhibition display

Every exhibition is a story of relationships. Relationships define our life. When we design a space we ask ourselves what object goes with which one and where. Everything talks to each other, everything communicates.
There is no difference if it is n exhibition of the own work or if it is a show with other items. At the moment when things leave their accustomed place and are positioned in a different context they tell a different story. The immediate, concrete, limited space around them plays a role also as the extended space of the building, the place where the building stands, the city, the country, the continent ...
Stories told in a different place sound different.
Art is a materialized, subjective thought and can tell stories. It does not matter whether space is infinitely small or infinitely large, or if rooms lead from of the past to the future. Art expands the space. At the same time art exists only when there will be found a reception in other persons. That’s the real act of art, it completes art. So what argues against a subjective representation of reality when it provokes a subjective perception of reality?
The design of an exhibition is a nonverbal communication to represent thoughts. Obviously, certain things can be understood only in certain places, because certain places has saved determined events, just like certain things are accessible to our minds only when viewed from the perspective of another time. Sometimes we have more access to thoughts by proximity, and sometimes by distance.
The visualization of content by spatial configurations, materials, light and shadow can have a profound impact in the well-being of visitors and reach him there, where the phenomenology of the soul comes into play and more rational controlled defence mechanisms doesn’t work. One must also be aware that even design of exhibitions is responsible for ensuring what knowledge can obtain generality. Of course, there are situations in which more than one person is responsible for the content, just as there are situations in which different positions are next to each other. The only thing what doesn’t exist is absolute objectivity because always has been forgotten something or something has not been shown; even those things talks.

2006 Egg dance or the fragility of being. - Egert 7 Gallery - Dornbirn / A

If you'd like me ...

I could save myself the trouble to question or think something differently, to do things on my own way or express my point of view.
If you'd like me ...
I wouldn’t need create spaces, objects or compare my perception to yours.
If I’m like you, it would be sufficient if my hands would condense your thoughts into a deep, humble, calm feeling to reach the highest beauty.
A light-footed dance, which wouldn’t deny the infinite or hide the void… We wouldn’t have to clean our soul from the dust, as Picasso said - a melting pot of the same individual thinking in which different reactions and perceptions would be condensed into a homogeneous unit a common action and into a collective consciousness. How simple, how easy would life be, and how boring.
True beauty would arise without compulsive or reason to aspire more, nor knowledge nor the desire to shape, no more imagination, and no more intervention into nature to create order out of chaos.
No evolution?
How equal is equal? ... if we know that different things, fundamentally different things are nothing else than aspects of the same thing.

2006 Through Time - Kastelbell Castle - Kastelbell

The castle, art and life

Everything is constantly changing, nothing remains the same. It is not the perception distinguishing us from animals, but our consciousness. A fly crawling over a picture does see it, smell it, grope and feel and yet it does not know what she crawls. She leaves the surface in flight if something else attracts her attention; one thousand eyes, one thousand facets of the world.
Quite similar is the exhibition which currently is on display at Kastelbell Castle. Works of 75 artists from South Tyrol are presented to the public. If we differ from other creatures because we are able to think, as is always claimed, it should be possible to guess something which takes us forward and not just as a consumer but as a recipient. Such an exhibition should offer different perspectives between what we see and what is not visible but exists only in ourselves. Each individual work describes the perspective of an individual, its facets, its needs to be able to live the own life, nothing universally, because every reception of every viewer is valid only for himself. When the viewer thinks like an artist, the viewer becomes an artist because it means perceive reality, whatever that is, and understand life through it.
This work show can encourage to find the own point of view. If there is a muzzle and one can guess what the artist tries to express…the head on the wheels… the ship… the room with the door…coffee filters… or just red… the words behind the veil... “Without art I can not breathe “.... It is an exhibition showing everything and nothing. But could it be that art has to do more with life as we allow art? Can it be that we can’t discover the spirituality of art because we only look, fly, land, eat like a fly and we are always on the alert not to be killed?
The Castle becomes a space for contemporary art, a link to another time. Can it be that nothing has really changed?

1997 1997 The heirs of Scrooge Mc Duck - Volksbank Gallery - Meran/Merano

Everything shines

The Bank institute as an exhibition space tells its one story. What is happiness? Wealth is happiness? Fairy tales promise it.
Who does not know him, Scrooge McDuck the epitome of the accumulation of money and symbol of richness who nevertheless doesn’t reach the target of happiness and satisfaction?
Despite better knowing, or maybe even not, we all succumb to the temptation of fame and money or are forced to increase our material goods.
The exhibition tells from the dreams of unreason and the supposed happiness we hope to find by increase wealth and prosperity. Are we part of a system that measures the value of our existence and that of the people on the number of zeros in the wallet, or are we covered already by the fairy tales of our childhood which inform us that money makes happy? - “And all the unhappiness is over” ... How much suffering in the world is currently connected to this idea?
The beautiful appearance of reality embodied by money, the only tangible means of fulfilling our dreams is deceptive. Although the owner prevails himself in security but he depends on his property, his money, his prestige, his ego. In fact there is nothing one has and can’t lose. Perhaps we should focus our life on simply being. While that what we have decreases by use, does the simply being increase by practice. We don’t loose what we give but on the contrary, we loose what we hold. And isn’t it trough that we admire characters like Scrooge McDuck but we can’ love them. That’s the privilege of Donald, the poor wretch, with his vastly human shortcomings.
Despite everything, we feel good when we climb the ladder of success, listen intently to the story of the euro associated with increased standard of living and when is told about the improvement of life. And we run and rave, go and make noise, call and perform… and lose. How easy is it get between the wheels lose yourself, because we have forgotten how to pay attention to the inner values of people. Almost this all seems to me as if we found ourselves in times of war, when Mother Courage recognized it as her actual breadwinner, even if she didn’t want anything else than survive with her children. And when she loses her children because of the war and wouldn’t change anything because business is all, forgotten the reason why she did it and at the end she has to move her car alone… untaught by the events and unteachable… And the difference today?

1995 Inhabitants - Artforum Galery - Meran/Merano

The nest, the shell, the snail

During the construction of your own home and in art, the realization includes decisions witch depend on the spirit and at the same time considerate all the liabilities of the perceptual world. If non-knowledge is not ignorance, but the difficult feat of overcoming the knowledge the soul can be the first suggestion that makes a work in every moment a pure creation and an exercise of freedom. Art competes with life and creates surprises to excite our confidence and to protect it from drowsiness.

Even if we do not understand anything without experiencing it, into the inner room, in the crossing point, where everything gets origin and meaning, valid images of a refuge may arise. Just as when we discover a nest in a bush and see with how much love it was built by the bird, or when we look at an abandoned shell. Everything comes out of a inner necessity of a physically compelling intimacy. The bird adjusts his house to his body as the person adapts his house and the house to its residents. A lot of pictures are connected with the nest and the shell and we can ask ourselves how many pictures of animal nature in man's nature are hidden and awaken those sense of originality that give us warmth and signal the retreat, witch we seek to realize in our homes.
Skills, thoughts and feelings determine the total work, give them their soul, the expression and insert the inner space into a larger one. Gaston Bachelard
