Villa Naif
2025
Variant project
The triangular plot to be landscaped is located in the middle of apple orchards in Obermais. It is a very rural area, but one characterised by monoculture. For this reason, emphasis was placed on using almost exclusively native plant species and, in some cases, wild plants in order to create a reasonable ecological balance. At the same time, however, it was also important to choose plants that are in harmony with the environment.
On the one hand, rose plants are planned for the front area, towards the valley on the south-west side of the building. Amelanchier and Prunus Padus as well as climbing roses are to screen the driveway to the garage and a short hedge of wild roses.
In the rear area along the road, the limited space between the building and the street only allows climbing plants to grow along the fence. It is a relatively shady area, which is why the plants used here should be suitable for these conditions.
The area facing south is available for Mediterranean plants, which are mainly sun-loving shrubs and perennials. As two cypress trees from the old stock can hopefully be preserved, a few more have been added. In early spring, the jasminum nudiflorum in the south covers the existing property wall with a shower of flowers, even without fencing, while in summer a catalpa provides shade.
In the south-west, a walnut tree, snowball variations, barberries and various types of Cornus, the bees’ favourite plants, provide a counterpoint to the apple trees.
However, great importance was attached to creating an atmosphere as possible peaceful, which is reflected in the white and yellow tones of the flowers.
